Alex Sutherland

RAND Europe is a not for profit research institute that helps to improve policy and decision making through research and analysis. In the field of education RAND Europe conducts a number of RCT’s studying some of the same research questions that TrygFonden’s Centre for Child Research investigates in the Danish context. For example they are currently working on:

• A large-scale RCT of a school-based reading intervention

• A smaller efficacy trial (RCT) of teacher-training on how to give pupils better feedback

• Another efficacy trial of an intervention to improve how teacher assistants are deployed in schools

• A long-term follow-up of an earlier RCT for pupils at high risk of exclusion

• We are also just starting a large quasi-experimental study of professional development for science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) teachers Alex Sutherland will talk about RAND Europe’s work in education (and more broadly), including how they approach the above projects.

After the presentation there will be time for questions and discussions for those interested.

Coffee, tea and morning rolls will be provided. Please sign up by email to: mvandersen@econ.au.dk
